Mariä Himmelfahrt

Mariä Himmelfahrt stands in Stuttgart-Feuerbach as a Catholic church with a modern structural frame and Baroque styling. Architect Bernhard Haass designed the building between 1990 and 1995. It is the largest church in Germany belonging to the Priestly Fraternity of St. Pius X. The church provides wheelchair access for visitors.

Its story grew from a small group of tradition-minded Catholics in Stuttgart during the 1970s. The Priory of St. Athanasius followed in 1981 and now serves as the German district headquarters. Construction replaced residential buildings and a factory site, while the first Mass followed completion of the exterior in 1993. Interior plasterwork and painting brought the building’s Baroque character into focus.

Allgäu artist Otto Kobel created work for the interior, while Hermengil Peiker completed the side altars in 2010. The mechanical organ, built by Mühleisen in 1995, has eighteen registers after a 2023 renovation. Five tower bells sound the notes f1, g1, a1, c2, and d2. Five priests and two brothers serve a community of 550 to 600 faithful from the priory.
