Heimatmuseum
Heimatmuseum in Stuttgart-Möhringen brings local history together inside the historic Möhringer Spitaltor. The gatehouse stands on the former Spitalhof.
The first museum opened in 1936 on the ground floor of a building dating from 1469. Wartime damage led to demolition in 1959, while a new building reopened in 1962 with the original façade. Prehistoric finds, early historical objects, Möhringen views and local club documents trace the area’s past. A fire engine from around 1850 adds a striking piece of practical history.
Anna Peters appears through her paintings, while August Kies is represented by opera memorabilia. Household objects, flax-processing tools, textiles and godparent letters reveal rural daily life. Volunteer members of ILM e.V. manage the museum and organise special exhibitions about local history. The Spitaltor dates from 1589 and survived the 1911 earthquake that destroyed its neighbouring barn.
