Graevenitz-Museum
Graevenitz-Museum in Stuttgart occupies a cavalier house within the Solitude Palace ensemble. Duke Carl Eugen built the ensemble in 1763, and the von Graevenitz family has been connected with this place since 1906.
Fritz von Graevenitz lived and worked here as a freelance artist from 1921 until 1959. Sculptures, paintings, and drawings show the range of his work, while the original setting connects them to his daily artistic life. Jutta von Graevenitz established the museum in 1971 to preserve these works in their historic surroundings. The sculpture garden adds casts of several of his best-known pieces.
His former workspaces once included studios and a barn on the garden side of the house. Structural problems led to their demolition in the late 1960s, leaving the garden and cavalier house as tangible reminders of the working environment.
