Christus König

Christus König is a Roman Catholic church in Stuttgart’s Vaihingen district, recognised as a protected heritage building. Alfred Schmidt designed this expressionist hall church. Its nave leads towards an eastern chancel closed on three sides, while a square tower rises beside the north wall. An octagonal lantern crowns the tower’s flat roof. Inside, the Zollinger roof spans the nave, creating a broad interior whose vault reaches a high central apex. A gilded cross marks the tower’s highest point. Schmidt also designed most of the furnishings, while Friedrich Thuma created the church’s altar cross. Winfried Albiez provided the church’s model pipe organ. The instrument arrived from St Martin in Wangen im Allgäu after serving as a standardised organ for smaller communities. Its pipe organ has registers across manuals and a pedal. The building’s protected status, expressionist form, Zollinger construction, and distinctive tower make Christus König a notable Vaihingen landmark.
