Bastion Leibfried
Bastion Leibfried rises in Leibfriedscher Garten, Stuttgart, as an artificial hill and viewing point within the city. A spiral path leads upward to panoramic views across Burgholzhof vineyards and Stuttgart city centre. From the summit, you can see the high bunker at Pragsattel, while clear weather may reveal the distant Swabian Jura.
Landscape architect Hans Luz designed the garden and its features for the International Horticultural Exhibition in 1993. The hill reaches nearly 310 metres and resembles a giant molehill. Before this landscape took shape, a water tank supplied the water features at Villa Moser. World War II destroyed the villa, leaving remnants near the garden and the expansive Rosensteinpark.
Leibfriedscher Garten belongs to the Green U, an eight-kilometre chain linking Stuttgart city centre with Killesberg Park. The constructed summit therefore places vineyards, urban landmarks, Villa Moser remains, and parkland within one view. On clear days, the Swabian Jura forms the distant edge beyond Stuttgart’s cityscape.
