Église Saint-Nicolas

Église Saint-Nicolas presents a slender Gothic silhouette crowned by an elegant spire above its historic walls. Its history reaches back to the fourteenth century. An older chapel occupied the site before later building work reshaped the church. Master Diebolt Mosung added a choir and side nave in 1454. The tower reached its distinctive final form in 1585, completing a landmark shaped across several centuries. Jean Calvin preached from this church in 1538. Albert Schweitzer later served as pastor here and played Johann Sebastian Bach on the organ. The church still carries musical memory. Inside, faded fifteenth-century fresco fragments appear beside a Renaissance pulpit, joining decoration with evidence of changing worship. A charismatic community now uses these historic walls for its continuing religious life. Its architecture connects Gothic height, Renaissance detail, Reformation history and modern spiritual practice in one place. Église Saint-Nicolas remains a living witness to faith and change.
