Villa Micka

Villa Micka stands in Dudweiler, a Saarbrücken district, on a hillside overlooking the Sulzbachtal. Its position behind the street gives the light-plastered building a secluded presence above the valley. Built between 1904 and 1912, it combines Jugendstil with elements of historicist architecture.

A slate roof crowns the three-storey villa, whose complex plan creates a richly varied silhouette. The main façade brings together a corner bay, a pointed tower and a risalit with a curved gable. Light plaster and reddish sandstone frame figures representing the four seasons, a beehive, a dog and clasped hands. A large owl statue watches from the roof, giving the house its local nickname, Eulenburg.

Original doors, floors, wall coverings and ceiling decoration survive in the piano nobile. Large stained-glass windows illuminate the wooden staircase, while Jugendstil tiles still cover a bathroom. The partly preserved garden once belonged to the design, although a 1950s petrol station replaced part of it. Restoration work continues after years when the house served as a Kooikerhondje kennel.
