Splitterschutzzelle

Splitterschutzzelle stands in Burbach, a district of Saarbrücken, as a cylindrical single-person bunker made from reinforced concrete. Its compact form gave civilians and industrial workers a protected space from shrapnel and other wartime dangers.

Built during World War II, mainly in the early 1940s, this type of bunker allowed quick access and sheltered one or two people. Many similar structures have since disappeared or found new uses, while this one remains part of Saarbrücken’s architectural heritage.

The thick concrete walls show how everyday safety measures shaped wartime industrial areas.
