Jēzus baznīca
Jēzus baznīca is a Lutheran parish church in Riga, south-east of the Old Town and behind the Latvian Academy of Sciences. Its wooden classical form makes it the largest wooden classical building in Latvia, with a distinctive presence among the city’s churches.
The first foundation stone was laid in 1635, and the church was consecrated in 1638. Wars and sieges destroyed earlier buildings, while the present structure was completed in 1822. An active congregation now centres worship and community life here, with services involving young people, lively music, children’s ministry and Latvia’s largest Sunday School.
Baptismal and marriage records connect the church with family research, giving this wooden landmark a place in personal histories as well as Riga’s architectural story.
