Reformierte Kirche

Reformierte Kirche stands in Rheinfelden, Switzerland, serving the town’s Evangelical Reformed congregation. Its dominant tower rises above a three-bay nave, framed by toothed corner ashlar and topped with an octagonal spire. Columns support the porch, while a triangular gable carries a five-lobed rose window above the entrance. Inside, a hall church arrangement brings together stained-glass windows by Felix Hoffmann and Arnold Zahner.

Johannes Vollmer designed the building, which Gustav and Julius Kelterborn constructed between 1894 and 1895. The congregation began with Reformed families who arrived during industrialisation and held their first service in 1854 at the Margarethen Chapel. Growth eventually led to the church’s construction, followed by extensions, renovations, and changing arrangements for worship. Heinrich Liebetrau added the porch in 1923 and the choir in 1933, while later work reshaped the interior and added classrooms below.

A Metzler organ installed in 1973 now occupies the raised gallery, with mechanical action and over 1,200 pipes. Its sound joins bells cast in 1895 by Aarau foundry H. Rüetschi, tuned to F, A, and C. A 2011 renovation improved acoustics, equipment, and energy efficiency, introducing LED lighting to a Swiss church for the first time.
