Kisha e Shën Shpëtimtarit

The Church of the Holy Saviour, known locally as Kisha e Shën Shpëtimtarit, is one of Prizren’s earliest medieval churches.

Built around 1330, it reflects the Orthodox Christian tradition present in medieval Kosovo.

Its compact architecture uses stone walls and once held interior frescoes, although much of that medieval heritage has suffered damage or loss.

The remaining structure shows a restrained fourteenth-century church form.

The church occupies Prizren’s historic core, where mosques, churches, tekkes, and monasteries stand close together.

These landmarks document centuries of religious coexistence.

Albanians, Turks, and Serbs shaped this urban landscape across generations, and its monuments still express that layered history.

The site received exceptional cultural importance in 1990.

Unrest in 2004 caused severe damage to the medieval structure.

The church no longer serves regular liturgy, but it remains part of historical walking routes through Prizren.
