Galeria Kombëtare e Kosovës

In Prishtina, the Galeria Kombëtare e Kosovës occupies a modest grey-stone building that once served as military barracks. Today, it presents twentieth-century and contemporary art from Kosovo. Founded in 1979, the gallery records a country’s changing visual culture through colour, memory, and rupture. Muslim Mulliqi anchors its modern painting collection here. His expressive landscapes also give their name to the Muslim Mulliqi International Exhibition, a major contemporary-art platform. Petrit Halilaj brings memory and renewal into installations. Jakup Ferri draws delicate, humorous worlds, while Alban Muja connects identity, language, and politics through visual narratives. Flaka Haliti examines boundaries and social dynamics there. Sislej Xhafa uses minimal gestures to raise complex social questions within the gallery’s programme. His work has appeared at New Museum in New York and Tate St Ives. The gallery also presents the Gjon Mili Prize for Photography. Its Artist of Tomorrow Award honours artists under thirty-five and highlights emerging creative voices. These rooms make space for dialogue, curiosity, and artistic growth. Together, the artists place Kosova’s histories and identities inside a changing contemporary-art landscape.
