Zeichnende Kinder

Zeichnende Kinder is a bronze sculpture by Hans Klakow on Freundschaftsinsel in Potsdam, Germany. Two children crouch over a drawing on the ground, while the boy points with chalk toward the centre of a sun and the girl follows his gesture.

Hans Klakow created the work in 1963, using simplified clothing and hairstyles to focus attention on the children’s exchange. The sculpture stands on a sandstone base and measures about 90 centimetres high, 115 centimetres wide and 84 centimetres deep. It belongs to Freundschaftsinsel’s collection of more than 20 bronze sculptures, among gardens and plants at the confluence of the Nuthe and Havel rivers.

The chalk points to the sun’s centre, giving this small scene its clearest detail.
