Holländischer Garten
The Holländischer Garten forms part of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, within the eastern Lustgarten. A round plaza centres on a fountain at the garden’s heart. Eight marble busts surround the fountain and represent members of the Oranien-Nassau family. Luise Henriette faces her husband, Friedrich Wilhelm, the Great Elector. Her family connection links the Brandenburg Hohenzollerns with the Oranien-Nassau lineage through political marriage and inheritance. Friedrich I later held the title Prince of Orange.
Other busts depict Philipp Wilhelm, Wilhelm II, Maria Henrietta Stuart, Amalie zu Solms-Braunfels, Moritz, and Friedrich Heinrich. Together, the figures mark Dutch and Brandenburg history. François Dieussart created the original busts, while modern copies now stand in the Oranierrondell. The originals are displayed in Oranienburg Palace’s Orange Hall. That hall connects the sculptures with the early Great Elector, Luise Henriette, and the later Friedrich I. At the plaza, marble portraits make dynastic history visible.
