Emil von Albedyll
Emil von Albedyll rests at Bornstedter Friedhof in Potsdam, a cemetery associated with historical significance and notable burials. His grave connects this quiet setting with Prussian military history. Born in 1824 in Liebenow, Pomerania, he died in Potsdam in 1897 after a long career in royal service. The cemetery preserves the place where his life ended.
He joined a prestigious Prussian cavalry regiment in 1841 and rose through the military ranks. In 1862, he entered the Department for Personal Affairs at the War Ministry. From there, he influenced appointments, promotions, and military awards during Wilhelm I’s reign. His exceptional memory and judgment made him valuable for military planning and personnel decisions. After retiring in 1893, he remained in Potsdam until his death.
