Dorfkirche Kartzow

Dorfkirche Kartzow is a neo-Gothic evangelical church in Kartzow, a district of Potsdam. The architect was Theodor Prüfer. Built in 1866, the church rests on foundations of a thirteenth-century predecessor destroyed by fire. Fieldstone and brick define the church’s structure. The nave and ground floor of the western tower use fieldstone, while window surrounds and pilasters use brick. The church’s upper tower levels are built entirely from brick. A recessed, three-sided chancel extends eastward beneath the gabled roof, and the tower carries a spire, ball, and cross. Carl Eduard Gesell built the church organ in 1886. The organ has eight registers, two manuals, and a pedal inside the church. Renovations took place from 1988 to 1995. East of the church, a medieval granite atonement cross adds another visible historical element to the Kartzow setting. The church belongs to the Fahrland parish and is a protected monument in Brandenburg.
