Dorfkirche Drewitz
Dorfkirche Drewitz is a protected evangelical church in Potsdam, Brandenburg, with an unusual central square plan. Its pyramid roof rises above a square tower containing the bell frame. Built of brick, the church presents a restrained exterior shaped by eighteenth-century Prussian taste.
Johann Gottfried Kemmeter directed construction in 1732 for King Friedrich Wilhelm I. Lightning struck the building in 1888, prompting significant restoration and renewal. Inside, a flat ceiling and an original pulpit altar preserve features from the first construction period.
Carl Eduard Gesell built the gallery organ in 1894, and VEB Potsdamer Schuke-Orgelbau modified it in 1982. The gallery places that instrument above the compact interior. The church remains a rare eighteenth-century central-plan example in Prussia.
