Edifício da Ourivesaria Cunha
The Edifício da Ourivesaria Cunha stands on Rua do Loureiro in Porto, linking architecture with the city’s jewellery-making history. José Pinto da Cunha establishes the Ourivesaria Cunha there around 1897.
The original shop takes on an elaborate interior after Francisco Oliveira Ferreira leads its early twentieth-century renovation. Acácio Lino paints allegorical scenes across the ceilings.
Rococo and neoclassical elements shape the decoration, while the building’s original façade largely disappears over time. Interior columns and staircase traces remain visible.
A mezzanine also survives in outline, revealing how visitors once moved through the jewellery shop. Part of the space houses Confeitaria Serrana.
Casa Arcozelo occupies another section, showing how the former commercial building has acquired new uses. The Cunha business later passes to the Machado family.
Its history reaches beyond Porto to Brazil and Lisbon, connecting local craftsmanship with wider jewellery trade. Family links include Belém do Pará.
The building preserves a meeting point between painted decoration, sculpture, retail, and Porto’s urban history. Its surviving details keep that story present.
