Table Mountain National Park
Table Mountain National Park stretches along Cape Town’s mountainous Cape Peninsula in South Africa, from Signal Hill to Cape Point. You encounter Table Mountain, the Cape of Good Hope and three linked sections: Table Mountain, Silvermine-Tokai and Cape Point.
Proclaimed in 1998, the protected landscape preserves rare fynbos within the UNESCO Cape Floral Region World Heritage Site. More than 2,000 plant species grow here, including endemic Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos, Cape Granite Fynbos and the Silver tree found only on Lion’s Head. Afro-temperate forests, mountain zebra, eland, caracal and rock hyrax add to the habitat’s variety.
The surrounding marine protected area, established in 2004, shelters endemic sea life where two oceanic water masses meet near Cape Point. That meeting creates a varied marine ecology alongside the peninsula’s land habitats.
