Wagenlenkerin

Wagenlenkerin stands in Passau, Germany, as a bronze sculpture by Hans Wimmer within his collection. Two horses and a barefoot woman occupy a single-axle cart above a broad stone pedestal. Their inner front hooves rise, while their heads turn slightly outward from the balanced group. The low base brings the simplified figures close to eye level for visitors.

Hans Wimmer made the work between 1984 and 1991, following his Munich-school practice of reducing forms to essentials. It measures about 2.10 metres high, 3.04 metres long, and 1.85 metres wide. The woman stands behind the horses, extending bent arms towards them without sculpted reins. Her hinted gown reveals slender contours, while chin-length hair frames a lightly worked face. The collection was bequeathed to Passau and displays Wimmer’s works at various locations.

The cart’s round platform bears the inscription “lady hecvra” and a small horse between the words. She stands barefoot there, while the motif echoes a horse shown on Wimmer’s greyhound collar. A sign beside the low base forbids visitors from climbing onto the horses.
