Hl. Severin
Hl. Severin is a former parish church in Passau’s Innstadt district, now serving as a cemetery church. Its dedication honours Saint Severin of Noricum, a fifth-century missionary and monk who supported Christian communities along the Danube.
Severin travelled through Noricum, founded communities at Favianis and Batavis Boiotro, and helped relocate Roman citizens as Germanic pressure increased. His companion Eugyppius recorded his life around 511, while later followers moved his remains to Italy after his death in 482. Excavations here in 1980 uncovered the foundations of an early Roman church, linking the cemetery church to Passau’s Roman past.
