Haus Kantner

Haus Kantner stands in Passau’s old town, among narrow streets and historic buildings. Built in 1870, the protected monument now houses an art hotel shaped around nineteenth-century character.

Original wooden floorboards creak underfoot, while large sash windows preserve the house’s period atmosphere. Rooms occupy the second through fourth floors, and stairs replace an elevator because the structure remains under monument protection. Some rooms overlook Passau’s old Roman wall, connecting the stay with the city’s ancient past.

Leopold Kantner, a composer and merchant born in 1859, links the house with Passau’s nineteenth-century cultural life. The art-hotel setting may also include exhibitions or works by local artists. One detail stays especially vivid: a view from an upper room across the old Roman wall.
