Maison du Brésil
Maison du Brésil is a purpose-built student residence within the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, designed for Brazilian students and scholars. Le Corbusier and Lúcio Costa shaped its architecture together. Its long, narrow block rises above a looser ground-floor arrangement, creating a distinct silhouette among the Cité campus buildings.
Costa made the initial sketch before Le Corbusier joined and completed the final architectural design. Construction followed in 1957, opening to residents in 1959 before a substantial building refurbishment in 2000. The residence supports students, professors, researchers, artists and interns connected with academic life in Paris. Its five upper floors contain single and double bedrooms, a music room, shared kitchen and study spaces.
It became a listed French Historical Monument in 1985. Rough textures and yellow window and door frames mark the exterior, while visitors can see a hall and original Corbusier-designed student room. The yellow frames remain the building’s clearest visual signature.
