Les Chardons
Les Chardons is an Art Nouveau building in Paris, built in 1903 by architect Charles Klein. Its facade combines yellow ochre and almond green ceramic tiles made by Émile Muller with intricate ironwork from Dondelinger’s atelier.
Charles Klein used the Hennebique reinforced-concrete system, then a pioneering construction method. The facade received an award in Paris’s 1903 facade competition, while the facade, roofs, entrance hall and staircase became historical monuments in 1986.
The building also appears in the films L’Appartement from 1996 and Chéri from 2009, giving its ceramic colours and crafted metalwork a place on screen.
