Hôtel de Soubise

Hôtel de Soubise stands in Paris’s third arrondissement as a grand city mansion shaped by several centuries of history. Its ornate façade leads into oval salons with gilded carvings and mirror glass set into the woodwork.

A semi-fortified manor occupied this site in 1375 before Pierre-Alexis Delamair remodelled it for the Prince and Princess de Soubise in 1704. Germain Boffrand later enriched the interiors in the 1730s, creating some of France’s finest Rococo rooms. Since a Napoleonic decree in 1808, the French State has owned the mansion, which now houses the Musée des Archives Nationales.

Historical documents inside include the Constitution of the Fifth Republic and letters from Marie Antoinette. Beyond the rooms, a hidden garden offers a quiet corner in the heart of Paris.
