Hôtel de Miramion

Hôtel de Miramion stands in Paris’s 5th arrondissement as a 17th-century hôtel particulier with a grand courtyard and garden façade. Christophe Martin expanded the property with land bought from the Bernardins, shaping an aristocratic residence whose decoration recalled the Hôtel d’Aumont. The surrounding enclosure once belonged to the Bernardins, while the nearby chapel of Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet served Seine boatmen from around 1230. Painted beam ceilings, protected woodwork and stone façades still reveal the building’s architectural character.

Madame de Miramion acquired the residence in 1675 and housed the community of the Holy Family within it. The Miramiones taught girls, trained schoolmistresses and cared for poor and sick people. After the French Revolution, workshops for arms and housing for forge workers replaced the religious community. In 1812, the building became the central pharmacy for Paris hospitals, a role it kept for roughly 150 years. Classified as a historical monument in 1926, it later housed the Musée de l’AP-HP, whose collections explored the history of hospitals.
