Hôtel de Jassaud
On Île Saint-Louis in Paris, Hôtel de Jassaud faces the Seine as a historic mansion shaped by several architectural periods. Its Louis XIII structure dates from 1642, beside the river. The quay façade gained a redesign around 1660, then extended westward in 1734 with eleven bays and three decorated pediments. Two pediments are triangular, while the third curves above garlands.
A wrought-iron balcony from 1727 projects over the river, supported by four consoles with scrolling volutes. A small garden and second courtyard sit behind the main building. Inside, a staircase carries a wrought-iron railing dating from the late eighteenth century, preserving another layer of the residence’s history. Camille Claudel worked in a ground-floor studio here from 1899 to 1913. Maurice Maindron, Félix Buhot, and Georges de Lastic also lived within these walls.
