Hôtel d'Almeyras

The Hôtel d'Almeyras stands in Paris's Marais as a seventeenth-century hôtel particulier built from stone and brick. Louis Métezeau designed it. For Pierre d'Alméras, a counsellor and secretary of finance under Henry IV, Métezeau built it between 1611 and 1613. The building has retained much of its original form. Jean de Fourcy acquired the land in 1598, and Pierre d'Alméras became its sole owner in 1625 after several transfers. Stone and brick define its façade. A grand staircase appeared around 1655, while wrought ironwork from 1723 still marks the porte cochère. Craft workshops later occupied the property. During the nineteenth century, those uses included a tannery and a chandelier workshop, linking the residence to Marais craft history. The building gained historic monument status in 1978, then underwent restoration in 1983.
