Hippodrome de Longchamp

Hippodrome de Longchamp occupies 57 hectares in the Bois de Boulogne, within Paris’s 16th arrondissement. Flat-racing courses weave across the grounds, with lengths ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 metres and 46 starting posts.

The famous hill tests thoroughbreds, while the racecourse hosts more than half of France’s Group One races. Its best-known meeting is the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which draws leading horses from around the world and crowds of up to 50,000 spectators.

The first race took place on 27 April 1857, attended by Napoleon III and Eugénie after they travelled along the Seine by private yacht. Édouard Manet and Edgar Degas later captured racing scenes here, while Solidays and concerts by The Rolling Stones brought music to the grounds.
