Fondation des États-Unis

Fondation des États-Unis stands in the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, in the fourteenth arrondissement opposite Parc Montsouris. Built in 1929 by architect Pierre Leprince-Ringuet, this residence preserves its Art Deco interiors and contains 267 rooms, including artist studios and music studios.

The cultural centre brings concerts, workshops, conferences, exhibitions and performances to the public through Franco-American programmes. Its Grand Salon holds frescoes painted in 1930 by Robert La Montagne Saint-Hubert with Ethel Wallace and James Newell, rediscovered during renovation in 1995 and restored by Louvre experts in 2011. A Harriet Hale Woolley scholarship supports American postgraduate students in music or fine arts, while another scholarship assists a psychiatry student from France, Switzerland or the United States.

The Grand Salon’s pavilion decoration became a listed historic monument in 2009. Its restored frescoes remain among Paris’s few intact Art Deco mural ensembles.

Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Paris. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.

What is myTuur?
