Casino de Paris

Casino de Paris is a historic music hall in Paris’s 9th arrondissement, dedicated to performances rather than gambling. Its story reaches back to the eighteenth century. Around 1730, the Duke of Richelieu built the original building.

After the French Revolution, Jardin de Tivoli became known for its fireworks displays. By 1880, the site had become the Palace Theatre, where shows included wrestling. During the First World War, conversion into a cinema and music hall shaped the modern venue.

Wartime bombardments interrupted performances, but revues returned and remained popular through much of the twentieth century. Mistinguett, Maurice Chevalier, Josephine Baker, Micheline Bernardini, and Tino Rossi all appeared on its stage. Serge Gainsbourg and Jean Ferrat contributed writing, while Erté and Jules Chéret created poster art for performances. Le Perroquet occupies the foyer mezzanine beneath a large glass roof, and Yves Saint Laurent designed costumes in the 1970s.
