Can Comassema

Can Comassema is a traditional Mallorcan estate in the Orient valley, within the Tramuntana mountain range near Palma. At about 500 metres above sea level, it combines historic buildings, rugged mountain scenery and cultivated Mediterranean gardens.

The earliest references date to Jaime I’s conquest in 1229, when Nuño Sanz appears as the first recorded owner. Before that, a nearby megalithic monument points to prehistoric settlement on Mallorca. Olive production and agriculture shaped the possessió, whose open cobbled clastra overlooks the valley beside an ivy-covered façade. A functioning safareig covers more than 900 square metres. Its renovated disco occupies a former animal-feeding space, while a terrace opens towards the Tramuntana peaks.

In the Mediterranean garden, cultivated plants meet a cobbled fountain and mountain views. Summer nights usually stay between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius, creating a mild setting for evening gatherings. The Tramuntana landscape has formed part of a UNESCO cultural landscape since 2011. In autumn, the ivy façade shifts from green towards golden and reddish tones.
