Can Bordils
Can Bordils stands in Palma as one of the city’s oldest manor houses, with a square plan and Gothic character. Its foundations and some elements reach back to the period of Muslim rule, while the present building took shape through a thirteenth-century reconstruction.
Renaissance windows arrived during the Sureda family’s renovation in 1554, with the Sureda-Zanglada and Sureda-Moyà coats of arms carved into their lintels. The property passed from Maimó Biniferaix in 1282 to Salvador Sureda i Safont in 1450, then to the Bordils family in 1647 and the Villalonga-Escalada family in 1808. Palma’s city council acquired the mansion in 1982, and it now houses the Palma Municipal Archive.
Inside, hexagonal pillars support the arches, while a preserved sixteenth-century coffered ceiling records the craftsmanship of its era. A courtyard brings light and air into the historic rooms, linking this former family residence with Palma’s tradition of grand urban casals.
