Can Belloto

Can Belloto stands on Carrer de Sant Feliu in Palma, Mallorca, among historic houses shaped by the city’s old merchant families. The building began in the medieval period, while its present appearance reflects alterations from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Its wide entrance opens onto an airy patio, where light and ventilation meet the practical heart of a traditional Palma mansion.

Antoni Mas owned the house in 1584, before Genoese lawyer Giovanni Francesco Pavesi acquired it in 1606 and introduced mannerist decoration. The façade carries half-columns with rustic capitals, a broken pediment, and the Pavesi family badge at its centre. Domenico Belloto later owned the property after making his fortune through wheat trading, linking its architecture with Palma’s commercial and social history.

Inside, an iron-railed staircase rises beside a flattened arch in the main support. Together with the open patio, these details show how local building traditions absorbed influences arriving through connections with Genoa and wider Europe.
