Cal Comte de la Cova
Cal Comte de la Cova is a historic house in Palma’s old city, with medieval origins reaching back to the fourteenth century. Its architecture gathers several periods, from medieval craftsmanship to late Renaissance alterations and later changes.
Francesc Desclapés owned the house in the sixteenth century, before the Villalonga family acquired it in the seventeenth. Don Francesc de Villalonga i Fortuny received the title Count of Cova from King Philip the Fourth, giving the house its present name. The Bosch family owned it during the twentieth century, while the building now houses the School of Tourism.
A monumental courtyard preserves a fourteenth-century polychrome Mudejar coffered ceiling and a late Gothic staircase. Original interlacing panels remain on the staircase, linking these details to the house’s medieval past.
