Porta dei Leoni
Porta dei Leoni stands in Piazza Leoni, Palermo, as the formal entrance to Parco della Favorita. From the square, two openings frame access into one of the city’s largest green spaces. Cars still pass through the gate, making its eighteenth-century architecture part of daily movement.
Built in 1799 alongside the park, the gate reflects Palermo’s late-eighteenth-century urban development. Symmetry, clean lines, and restrained decoration give the structure presence without elaborate sculpture. Its proportions mark a transition between the busy square and the park beyond.
Parco della Favorita was planned for leisure and outdoor activities, while this gateway gave visitors a recognizable arrival. Today, the same main access connects Palermo’s urban fabric with its public green space. Look for the two passages, still used mainly by vehicles entering the park.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Palermo. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
