Neutorturm
Neutorturm rises within Nuremberg’s historic city fortifications as one of four main round towers. The tower forms part of Neutor, a major gateway beside the older Tiergärtnertor.
Neutor first appears in records from 1377 and connected Nuremberg with Fürth, Würzburg, and Frankfurt am Main. A farm once stood outside the gate. In 1564, builders encased the tower and replaced the old outwork with the Neutor bastion. The gateway has inner and outer gates, while the outer Vorwerk carried the old name Grün L. Nineteenth-century pedestrian passages later crossed the outer gate.
The surrounding defences extend between Hallertor and Tiergärtnertor along the Neutormauer. Neutorstraße once carried long-distance trade towards the gateway. Within the Zwinger, the medicinal plant garden at Hallertor leads towards the northern fortifications, including the mayor’s garden and castle bastions. A doorway connects this garden with the fortified area beyond.

The myTuur app is free, and once you are standing at a spot its story starts by itself.
Spots like this one are the stops myTuur strings into tours through Nuremberg. In the app, each story begins where you stand: walk up to a spot and it starts, read it on screen or listen as you go, then follow the route to the next one.
What is myTuur?
