Villa Arson
Villa Arson is a contemporary art centre, art school, artist residency, and multimedia library on a hill in northern Nice. Gardens, terraces, courtyards, and Mediterranean vegetation surround the buildings. From Saint Barthélemy, the 23,000-square-metre site opens views across Nice and the French Riviera through natural light.
Founded in 1881 as École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, Villa Arson expanded after Nice offered the Arson family home in 1965. Architect Michel Marot completed the expansion in 1970. The school and Centre National d’Art Contemporain opened together in 1972, linking education, research, and exhibitions.
Students, resident artists, and researchers work alongside exhibitions, performances, talks, publications, and a multimedia library. Installations, sculpture, drawing, cinema, and music fill the artistic programme. The gardens and terraces also host guided tours and creative workshops for families and children.
