Théâtre de la Traverse
Théâtre de la Traverse is a small theatre in Nice, with forty-four seats bringing audiences close to the stage. Its intimate setting supports a programme centred on contemporary and modern plays, especially comedies.
Founded in Fréjus in 1979, the theatre has operated in Nice since 1997 and created more than two hundred productions. Many of these have reached festivals, including the Festival d’Avignon. Across more than four decades, its productions have included humorous performances, occasional classics and more serious works. Jean Louis Châles leads the venue and teaches adult drama classes, while serving as an honorary professor at the Nice Conservatoire.
The venue also extends its theatre work through a specialist bookshop and a publishing house devoted to theatre. The bookshop offers scripts and books about acting. Its wheelchair access supports visitors with reduced mobility, though assistance may be needed. Room hire is available for events and performances. Talented actors perform comedies and modern plays in the intimate room.
