Parc Valrose - Université Côte d'Azur - Faculté des Sciences

Parc Valrose, Université Côte d’Azur, Faculté des Sciences, occupies a historic estate in northern Nice, between Avenue de Brancolar and Cimiez hill. Its landscaped park surrounds the Grand and Small Valrose castles. The main castle presents Gothic architecture with frescoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and paintings. The former theatre later became a concert hall. Joseph Carlès designed gardens with Italian plants, greenhouses, a rose garden, fountains, waterfalls, and grottos. Statues and garden structures remain part of the estate. Paul von Derwies created Valrose as an aristocratic Riviera residence during the nineteenth century. The university now uses the estate as its science campus and headquarters. The campus contains a library, sports complex, restaurant, fablab, computer rooms, and interdisciplinary project spaces. Research and student life occupy the historic buildings. The park and its monuments have historical monument status, while the site offers wheelchair accessibility. Valrose connects botanical variety, aristocratic architecture, and academic activity within Nice.
