Monument à la reine Victoria

Monument à la reine Victoria stands in Nice, at the entrance to the gardens of the former Excelsior Hôtel Regina. White marble shows Queen Victoria seated, with four young girls presenting bouquets.

Louis Maubert sculpted the statue, while architect Félix Biasini shaped the monument, inaugurated in 1912. Queen Victoria spent several winters in Nice, especially in Cimiez, and stayed at two grand hotels. Her visits helped establish the neighbourhood as a winter destination for European royalty and aristocracy. The memorial took shape through a public subscription, while the hotel provided land beside its park.

An inscription identifies Victoria as Queen of the United Kingdom, Great Britain and Ireland, and Empress of India. Four girls embody the Riviera cities where she stayed. Since 1992, the protected historic monument has stood on public land, surrounded by a small garden.
