Galerie de la Marine

Galerie de la Marine is a municipal contemporary-art gallery in Nice, close to the city’s cultural attractions and famous promenade. Its compact, understated space creates an intimate setting for temporary exhibitions, where painting, sculpture and multimedia installations invite close attention. Wheelchair access makes the gallery welcoming to a wide range of visitors.

Opened in the late 1960s, the gallery works alongside nearby Galerie des Ponchettes and partners with Villa Arson, Nice’s national art school. This connection gives young and emerging artists from France and abroad opportunities to show their work, particularly after graduating from Villa Arson. Exhibitions include solo, group and thematic projects, with changing displays that reflect new ideas in contemporary art.

One memorable presentation featured Elias Crespin’s metal or plexiglass mobiles, whose computer-controlled motors created a slow, suspended choreography through the gallery. Another transformed scrap materials into a potential living and working space for an artist. Free admission and concise exhibitions make this a focused way to encounter Nice’s developing creative scene.
