Église Saint-Roman de Bellet
Église Saint-Roman de Bellet sits in Saint-Roman de Bellet, a hillside district in northwestern Nice. Natural spaces and vineyards surround this nineteenth-century church. Joseph Vernier, a Niçois architect, gave the building its neoclassical design, with symmetry, columns, and balanced proportions.
Vernier lived from 1800 to 1859 and also designed Place Masséna in Nice. Classical Greek and Roman forms shape the architecture. Regular services and community gatherings connect the church with the surrounding village-like district, which remains part of Nice despite its rural atmosphere.
Bellet vineyards spread across terraces above the left bank of the Var River, between 200 and 400 metres. About 650 hectares belong to the vineyard area, with roughly 58 hectares planted. These urban vineyards are France’s only AOC vineyards, producing red, rosé, and white wines beside the church.
