Memminger Tor
Memminger Tor stands in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria, as part of the extensive Bundesfestung Ulm fortress complex. The structure forms Halbbastion 9, one of several defensive works built to protect the surrounding region.
The nineteenth-century fortification reflects military thinking shaped by changing tactics and invasion fears. Thick walls and strategically positioned bastions created a defensive network that extended across Germany. Its surviving architecture shows how engineering and military planning worked together in this period.
The most distinctive detail is the combination of a named gate with a bastion role, linking passage through Neu-Ulm to the wider fortress system.
