Wappenhalle

Wappenhalle stands in Munich’s Messestadt Riem, a protected monument from the former Munich-Riem Airport. Its grand reception hall reflects the architectural ambitions of 1939. The building was never officially opened because the Second World War began. Today, its formal design recalls the airport that once shaped this part of Munich.

Wartime damage marked the structure, yet restoration returned it to its former condition by 16 June 1951. The airport ceased operations in May 1992. Wappenhalle remains one of the few surviving airport structures, surrounded by a modern urban district that replaced the former airfield setting. Its present life as an event location keeps this piece of aviation history connected to the community.
