St. Nikolaus
St. Nikolaus stands in Englschalking, a district of Munich, as a church dedicated to Nicholas of Myra. Its origins date to around 1300 in Munich.
The building reflects the transition from late Romanesque forms towards early Gothic architecture. A Baroque remodelling in 1659 enlarged the windows and changed the interior. Moisture damaged Baroque elements, which were removed in 1956.
Restoration in 1969 repaired foundation problems and uncovered late Gothic wall paintings inside the church. The paintings show symbols of the Evangelists.
St. Nikolaus has a single nave, a flat ceiling, and a choir with a narrow round-arched east window. A small roof turret rises above the slightly raised east gable.
The high altar from 1659 displays a painting of Nicholas and statues of Corbinian and Wolfgang. A wall surrounds the cemetery beside St. Nikolaus.
Wilhelm Flaschenträger and Ernst Rattenhuber are buried there. St. Nikolaus is a protected historical monument in Bavaria.
