Proserpina
Proserpina is a marble statue by Dominik Auliczek in Munich’s Nymphenburg Palace Park. The figure appears beside Ascalaphos, the owl from her myth.
Created in 1778, the sculpture brings an eighteenth-century Baroque subject into the palace gardens. Auliczek worked in porcelain and sculpture, with attention to intricate detail. Nymphenburg Palace forms the setting, with grand Baroque architecture and expansive grounds. The Wittelsbach rulers used the palace as their summer residence. Sculptures and other artworks continue through the surrounding park, while Proserpina preserves one precise encounter between myth and marble.
