Pluto

Pluto stands in the gardens of Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, surrounded by manicured lawns and tranquil channels. The baroque statue presents the mythical ruler of the underworld in flowing robes and a stern expression.

Dominik Auliczek created the sculpture between 1777 and 1778, giving the figure a commanding presence suited to baroque art. Cerberus lies at his feet as a three-headed hellhound, adding a vivid mythological detail to the scene.

Nymphenburg Palace once served as a summer residence for Bavarian royalty, and its gardens place the sculpture within a setting of courtly grandeur.
