Parcus-Haus

The Parcus-Haus stands at Promenadeplatz Twelve in Munich’s Kreuzviertel as a historic residential and commercial building. Its Neorenaissance design uses classical columns, pilasters and detailed ornamentation. Architect Friedrich von Thiersch designed the building for the Parcus Brothers’ printing company. The construction period ran from 1887 to 1888. The Parcus Brothers used the premises as a base for their printing business. World War Two severely damaged the Parcus-Haus, alongside many Munich buildings affected by the conflict. Otto Roth then rebuilt it in simplified form between 1948 and 1950. The reconstruction followed the building’s wartime damage. The dome, a central feature of the original design, was restored in 2000. The building’s dome was restored in 2000. The restored dome reintroduced a defining element of the building’s original architectural composition. The Parcus-Haus is a protected monument within Munich’s architectural history. Its record brings together Neorenaissance design, printing history and postwar reconstruction. The building shows how Munich’s architecture changed through damage, rebuilding and restoration.
