Münchner Marionettentheater
Münchner Marionettentheater stands in Munich as the oldest stationary puppet theatre in the German-speaking world. Its stage brings fairy tales, operas, and operettas to children and adults.
Josef Leonhard Schmid founded the theatre in 1858, seeking valuable performances for children rather than exaggerated comedy. Theodor Fischer designed its permanent building in 1900. Since 2000, puppeteer Siegfried Böhmke has led programmes featuring Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
The building’s functional, elegant design places marionettes within a stage shaped by Munich architect Theodor Fischer. Wheelchair access welcomes visitors with mobility needs.
